2015: the best in travel

2016 is just a few days away and while we are getting ready for the NYE parties we have been reminiscing over our travels during the year.

2015 has been a great travel year for us. Not many can say they have been to Asia and Australia in a year let alone the same trip especially when you are two island girls who grew up in The Bahamas.

We thought we would recap our travels while pointing out our top picks for hotels, food, excursions, tours, brunch and nightlife.

Hotel & Spa

We went to our fair share of hotels this year ranging from budget friendly to luxury. However, there was one that by far blew the others out of the water and that was the Westin Singapore. The rooms, amenities (roof top infinity pool and free yoga – yes please) service, and spa were spectactular. We definitely would love to visit their heavenly spa again. We will feature a more in-depth review of the hotel in later posts.

We are proud foodies – but who isn’t? While we were in Lisbon, we spent the morning searching for a good restaurant for dinner and found on Yelp what promised to be one of the best seafood restaurants in Lisbon – Cervejaria Ramiro. Such a bold statement we thought! We confirmed locations with the concierge who warned us that there may be a line. When we thought of a line we didn’t think they meant round the block (thats always a good sign though right?). But the food, oh the food, if I say A-M-A-Z-I-N-G that doesn’t even do it justice! The food was incredible and we still think about it constantly almost a year later. We highly recommend you go if you are in Lisbon.

We will give you a minute while you lust over these pictures.

When we booked to go to Australia our hearts were set on seeing Kangaroos. You don’t go all the way “down under” not to right? So while in Melbourne we took the day trip of the year!

Starting in the early morning we adventures out of the city centre where we went to Maru Animal Park where we had the chance to feed the kangaroos, wallabies, and take pictures with the koalas.  There were other animals at the farm but how could you be interested in a horse when there is a kangaroo hopping around?

We were mystified at the size of the kangaroos and they were pretty friendly to believe it or not – or it may have had something to do with the food in our palms.

After becoming friends with Australia’s best, we ventured to see the  another star attraction of Melbourne – Phillips Island for the little penguins tour.

The tour company we found was great and provided comfortable travel in a large coach which even had wifi (a plus for Instagram those great shots). We highly recommend this if this is your first time to Melbourne.

So the excursion could be classified as a tour, but we didn’t want to leave out our day tour to the Hunter Valley in Sydney. If you love wine this is definitely the tour for you. We visited about 5 vineyards and tasted 10-12 wines at each. This was great value of money in our books and of course we purchased a few bottles of wine to carry back to London with us.

This institution has become popular across the world, so no doubt we would find in our travels a great spot to spend a few hours eating and enjoying cocktails.

While in Munich, our hotel recommended brunch at Kuffler and what we enjoyed most about the restaurant was its ambiance. It had a sophisticated aura  and the food wasn’t bad either.

So we will admit that we aren’t the biggest on nightlife – we love sleeping and low key evenings! But on vacation we do try and find places for a cocktail or two! If we were to rank those bars we have been to abroad this year, the Flight rooftop bar at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel would probably be at the top of our list. The view was outstanding!

Special Mentions

We couldn’t end this post without mentioning some of the treats we had in Hong Kong and our visit to the iconic Sydney Opera House.

While in Hong Kong we stayed at the Langham, the hotel was beautiful but the service was paramount. Our room service was fantastic and made you feel like a 5 star restaurant in our hotel room. On top of that the breakfast buffet was the star of the buffets on the trip, and last but not least the lobby bar provided during happy hour free champagne and cheese plates (unbelievable).

The Opera house doesn’t need much of an introduction, but what we did do while there was see a local show Lore by the Bangarra Dance Theatre. The show was incredible and we would recommend if ever in Sydney not just doing the tour but seeing some of the local shows and talent.

We hope you have enjoyed our top picks for 2015 and hope to share more of our travels with you.
